Find a designer, who gets glass.

Look at three things: a portfolio with at least four to six glass-heavy projects (bathrooms, partitions, mirrors, feature walls), recent client ratings, and whether the designer coordinates fabrication themselves or hands it off. The third one matters more than people realise — designers who own the fabricator relationship deliver fewer site surprises and tighter schedules.

Three honest tiers in tier-one cities. Basic full interiors land between ₹8–15 lakh — modular kitchen, wardrobes, painting, basic lighting. Mid-tier sits at ₹15–30 lakh, where glass starts to play seriously: shower enclosures, kitchen backsplashes, wardrobe shutters. Premium runs ₹30–60 lakh and above with feature walls, switchable glass, mosaic art, and bespoke hardware.

Glass typically takes 6–12% of a full interior budget. The cleaner cuts and better hardware are usually worth it because they’re the parts you touch every day.

Eight to fourteen weeks is realistic for a 2/3 BHK once design is locked. Two to three weeks for design and material selection, four to six for fabrication and procurement, two to three for site work and install, and a final week for snagging.

Monsoon adds time — the polish, lacquering, and adhesive curing don’t love humidity, so July–September installs typically run 10–15% longer than the same job in February.

Frameless shower screens, fluted privacy partitions, mosaic tile walls, and full-mirror vanities are the four moves that read as luxury without becoming a maintenance project. Eight or ten millimetre toughened safety glass for showers, fluted reeded glass for the partition between WC and dry areas.

Switchable PDLC glass is the splurge — clear when the room is in use, opaque on a switch — and it works in Indian humidity if the panel is properly sealed.

2BHKs read smaller when they’re maximalist, which is why most designers default to minimal palettes for under-1,000-sqft homes. Mirrors, light walls, and fluted glass partitions visually expand the floorplan; busy patterns and dark wood compress it.

The exception: one bold maximalist moment per home — a feature wall, a mosaic-tiled bathroom, a coloured-glass kitchen backsplash — gives the space personality without making the rest feel cramped.

Three common models. Per-square-foot design fees (₹120–₹450/sqft) are most transparent — you pay for the design and procure separately. Fixed-package design (₹2.5–₹8 lakh for a 3BHK) bundles design with project management. Commission-only is the murkiest — the designer earns from material markup, which incentivises higher-spec choices.
